Mt Bundy Station was founded by Hubert "Fred" Hardy, pioneer grazier and reknowned buffalo-hunter.

A noted character and respected horseman, Fred Hardy is pictured, left, shortly before his untimely death.

In 1940, the now-famous Adelaide River Cup was held at Mt Bundy Station. A famous competitor, with a reputation for daring, Fred was thrown from his horse during the race and died from his injuries. He was buried on the station. Click to enlarge image and read Fred's final thoughts
Historical Mt Bundy Station - click to enlarge Despite the tragic death of it's founder, Mt Bundy Station continued to grow and eventually comprised a large workforce, spread over vast tracts of the Northern Territory. The station encompassed huge areas of what is now the magnifcent Kakadu National Park.
 
Caught in 1953 in the Adelaide River, this robust salt-water specimen serves as a valuable historical reminder of the need for caution around Northern Territory waterways.
