Mt Bundy Station was founded by Hubert "Fred" Hardy, pioneer grazier and reknowned buffalo-hunter.
A noted character and respected horseman, Fred Hardy is pictured, left, shortly before his untimely death. |

| In 1940, the now-famous Adelaide River Cup was held at Mt Bundy Station. A famous competitor, with a reputation for daring, Fred was thrown from his horse during the race and died from his injuries. He was buried on the station. |

Despite the tragic death of it's founder, Mt Bundy Station continued to grow and eventually comprised a large workforce, spread over vast tracts of the Northern Territory. The station encompassed huge areas of what is now the magnifcent Kakadu National Park. |
